Official Upstate NY Spring Uni?

If you’ve spent any time in Upstate New York, this photo probably hits home. A viral image (albeit AI-generated) is making the rounds, showing what many are calling the unofficial spring uniform: hoodie up top, shorts down below.

And honestly, this is a hard one to argue.

"The Shorts of Optimism"

It might be 38 degrees with a biting wind (in April), but that doesn’t stop most of us from breaking out the shorts like it’s beach season. Around the Capital Region, once temps creep into the 40s, people are ready to move on from winter, whether winter agrees or not.

You’ll see it everywhere—Stewart’s parking lots, quick gas runs, in and around schools, even just standing around talking about whether this is finally “the last cold snap.”

Accurate or Nah?

And judging by the comments, it’s a shared experience. One person called it “The Shorts of Optimism,” while another joked, “'Cause we can. Nuff said.” Plenty pointed out the full look isn’t complete without socks pulled halfway up the calf… and maybe even Crocs. Others say they’ve been dressing like this since February, while hockey players apparently rock it all season long.

Last month, we shared a similar photo poking fun at the typical Upstate New York blue-collar look—and the response was incredible. Thousands jumped in to defend the hardworking guys who wear it proudly.

So be honest…

Is this 100% accurate for Upstate New York, or are we missing something from the official spring uniform?
