This Terrifying NY Attraction Could Be Named Best in America
They Do Halloween on a Whole Other Level
We have some great haunted attractions around the Capital Region, but if you’re willing to make a relatively short drive south of Albany, you’ll find one that’s getting some national attention, and deservedly so.
And if you’re REALLY into Halloween, you may already know exactly which one I’m talking about.

Headless Horseman Hayrides and Haunted Attractions in Ulster Park has been nominated by USA Today 10 Best as one of the best haunted houses and attractions in America for 2026.
Pricey But Worth It
Headless Horseman sits on more than 65 acres at a historic manor and is much more than your typical haunted house.

I’ve been to Headless Horseman before, and the scale of the place is pretty incredible. Yes, tickets can be a little pricey, but this is one of those attractions where you can see where the money goes.
Why Horror Fans Love It
The experience changes each Halloween season, and features elaborate sets, actors, costumes, makeup, animatronics, and incredible (albeit very gory) special effects. There’s also the famous hayride, haunted houses, walking trails, a corn maze, magic show, and, of course, you never know when the Headless Horseman himself might make an appearance.

USA Today says it selected its 20 nominees based on factors like actors, set design, special effects, and value for the money.
Now readers get to decide the winner! Voting is open once per day through Monday, September 21st at noon, with the winners scheduled to be announced September 30th.
Not bad for a nationally recognized Halloween destination roughly an hour south of Albany.
