Community Hockey Fundraiser Honors Officer Jan Mika This Weekend
Region Comes Together for Family of Fallen Officer
The Capital Region continues to rally around the family of Jan Michael Mika Jr., the beloved Albany Police officer, husband, and father who passed away on Christmas Eve at the age of 48.
In the weeks since his passing, the outpouring of support has been overwhelming. A GoFundMe established for Jan’s wife, Stehle, and their children, Ryan and Peyton, has already raised nearly $80,000, a powerful testament to the depth of Jan's respect among fellow officers, first responders, and the community he served.
Hockey Fundraiser this Saturday
That support now continues with a special charity hockey game this weekend.
The River Cup will feature Albany Fire vs. Troy Fire, with all proceeds going directly to Jan’s family. The game will be played Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 1 p.m. at the Albany Academy Field House.

The event hits especially close to home for many in the hockey community. Jan’s son, Ryan, is a talented young hockey player, and the fundraiser is designed to support the activities and opportunities that meant so much to Jan as a father.
The River Cup will feature a heated on-ice rivalry as Albany Fire and Troy Fire face off in a fast-paced hockey matchup, bringing plenty of energy and friendly competition to the event.
Fans can also look forward to some great raffle items throughout the afternoon, including tickets and exclusive meet-and-greet opportunities for GNA’s next Secret Star show, adding an extra layer of fun to an already meaningful day.

Jan was known for always showing up — whether for his family, his fellow officers, or his community.
This weekend, the Capital Region has the chance to return that same support, filling the stands and honoring a man whose impact will not be forgotten.
