A disturbing story out of Cohoes, where police say two people were found dead inside an apartment at Harmony Mills following an apparent murder-suicide.

According to NewsChannel 13, Cohoes Police Chief Todd Waldin and Mayor Bill Keeler said the incident appears to have stemmed from a domestic dispute involving a 30-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man. Police believe the couple was reportedly headed for divorce.

Shots Fired Tuesday Morning

According to the report, police received multiple reports of shots fired just after 11 AM on Tuesday morning, and residents at the apartment complex told investigators they heard two gunshots coming from inside an apartment.

As police worked to determine what had happened, surrounding apartments were evacuated as a precaution.

Chief Waldin explained that officers couldn't immediately know whether they were dealing with a barricaded suspect or a possible hostage situation.

Police Found Two Deceased Inside the Apartment

The news station said that law enforcement used drones, cameras, phone-location information, and other technology to assess the situation before entering the apartment at approximately 4:30 PM.

Police ultimately discovered the two deceased individuals inside, and officials described the deaths as an apparent murder-suicide and said the investigation remains ongoing.

The names of the man and woman have not been released yet.
