When Your Team’s Star Is a Kicker, You Can’t Throw Stones at Giants Fans
Giants fans, I come to you not with gloating, but with sympathy.
I think NFL fans, regardless of who you root for, can agree on one thing right off the bat: Holy moly, that was some football game.
My Dallas Cowboys may have walked away with the win yesterday, but as someone who has followed a mostly disappointing franchise for the better part of the last 30 years, I understand the pain of unmet expectations.
Your team has given you incredible highs in the last two decades: Super Bowls, legendary moments, and seasons that every fan base envies. But right now, it’s hard not to feel like things are slipping into a downward spiral.

And trust me, I get it. I literally had to show my 10-year-old a Netflix documentary on the '90s Cowboys to prove that once upon a time, that star on the helmet meant something. It didn’t help that the grainy home video made it look like it was filmed 100 years ago.
Still, there are bright spots. Malik Nabers already looks like an absolute stud and the kind of receiver who can change games on his own.
Rookie running back Cam Skattebo runs with a fearless, battering-ram style that makes you believe he can carry this team through brick walls. Those are pieces worth building around.
The challenge, of course, is under center. Russell Wilson is the current starter, and even though he’s been mostly okay, fans hate him. Behind him is Jaxson Dart, the raw but interesting backup who could either develop into something special or be ruined behind a below-average offensive line.
The future rests on whether he gets the chance to grow the right way. It worked for Eli back in the day; maybe it'll work for him.
And believe me, I’m not throwing stones from a glass house. The Cowboys’ most reliable offensive weapon right now is Brandon Aubrey — a kicker who wasn’t even a football player a few years ago.
The way he just casually nailed a 64-yarder to send the game into overtime can't be overlooked. Only 4 times in NFL history has a kick that long ever been made, and it was the first time that a 64-yarder sent a game into OT.
Maybe both our teams need to start plucking guys off the street and sending expensive names like Wilson to the bench.
At the end of the day, Cowboys and Giants fans share more than heartbreak — we share a common enemy. If my team can’t be the one to smash the freakin' Philadelphia Eagles, I sincerely hope yours does.
On that, at least, we can stand together.
