Medical Emergency: Propane Truck Crashes Into Rotterdam Home
A potentially dangerous situation unfolded early Thursday morning after a truck carrying propane crashed into a Rotterdam home following a medical emergency.
According to the Carman Fire Department, crews were dispatched to a residence on Peter Road at approximately 7:45 a.m. after receiving reports of a vehicle collision involving a home that contained propane.

All Occupants in the Home Safely Evacuated
Thankfully, fire officials say all occupants of the residence and the vehicle were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported inside the home.
Officials say the incident began when the truck, which had been parked in the Stewart’s parking lot, suddenly crossed a nearby field after the driver experienced a medical episode. The vehicle struck a tree before crashing into a nearby house.
The driver was transported to the hospital for medical evaluation. His condition has not yet been released.
A Tree Likely Prevented Further Damage
According to CBS 6 News, the truck traveled across the field, struck guide wires connected to a National Grid utility pole, damaged a Verizon data box, and caused additional property damage before coming to rest against the home.
The tree that was hit reportedly fell onto the truck, with part of it also impacting the house. Fire officials believe the tree likely prevented more serious damage.
Two crews were called to the scene to remove the truck, which was resting on a tree stump, complicating the operation. The truck was carrying multiple small propane tanks, but crews confirmed that none were leaking and no hazardous conditions were found, according to sources.
