Police Using Unmarked CITE Cars to Catch Heavy-Footed NY Drivers
Speed Week Started on Monday
You may have noticed an increase in the number of cars pulled over by New York State Police in the last few days as "Speed Week" continues throughout the state.
Now, through Sunday, troopers said they will actively patrol highways and target drivers who violate New York’s “Move Over” Law during this weeklong sting.
Some of the cars will be marked, some will not.

What are CITE Vehicles?
Concealed Identity Traffic Enforcement (CITE) refers to using unmarked police vehicles and officers in routine traffic enforcement to blend in with regular traffic and more effectively identify traffic law violators.
CITE vehicles are designed to appear as ordinary cars but are equipped with emergency lighting and sirens that can be activated to stop vehicles.

22K Tickets Issued Last Year
Last year, during the June 2024 Speed Week campaign, State Troopers issued 22,476 total traffic tickets, including 11,175 for speeding and 592 for Move Over law violations.
State Police did something similar over the Memorial Day Holiday, issuing 12,062 tickets statewide during the enforcement campaign.
According to the report, Troopers say they arrested 245 people for DWI and investigated 774 crashes, with three fatal crashes reported.
