Another Tornado in Upstate New York?

The unpredictable Upstate New York weather turned volatile on Monday, and videos and pictures of the storm have many wondering if another tornado touched down in the Empire State.

The National Weather Service has yet to confirm what some believe was a tornado that formed in Romulus, New York, about 3 hours west of Albany, north of Ithaca, on Monday.

The video below, submitted to WROC by Timothy Botsford, shows a possible tornado in Romulus, New York, on Monday evening; take a look at the size of that funnel cloud.

Thankfully, there were no reported injuries; however, some storm damage was observed.

Locals Say it Was a Tornado

The National Weather Service has yet to confirm that a tornado touched down, but judging by the pictures below and the reaction from locals, it's a foregone conclusion that it will.

Meteorologist Eric Snitil from Rochester thinks it was, and he was surprised that there wasn't a warning ahead of time, saying, "The evidence makes this a pretty clear-cut tornado touchdown."

While adding, "The NWS will need to survey to make it official, but I'm convinced. So why wasn't there a Tornado Warning?"

In 2024, New York experienced a record-breaking 33 confirmed tornadoes, surpassing the previous 25 set in 1992. The majority of these tornadoes occurred in July, with 16 confirmed during that month alone, also setting a new record for the most tornadoes in a single month, according to the National Weather Service.
