Just this week I'm trying out a trial of Amazon Prime.   It allows you to get free two-day shipping, access to movies, music and more.   It is pretty amazing. But look who's hot on their tail?

Amazon Prime's service is pretty convenient. In fact it's too convenient. It click one button and whatever you've been staring at it is in the "shopping cart",  ready to be shipped. You get the item in two days. Free shipping!  I've already purchased something today – vacuum cleaner bags for our Oreck.

But that's beside the point.   I'm not sure of they patented the idea or not, but it looks like Walmart is testing the same exact service at about half the price.  Amazon Prime costs $100 for the year, but according to ABC News.com, their new competitor is thinking of offering it at $50/year.  Now mind you, you can't get the music or video services that Amazon is so famous for, but you can still get 1 million items, including the possibility of groceries (they are testing this in 5 markets only).

I guess this is invitation only right now, according to the article, so it looks like this is all being "beta tested", but it definitely shows how online shopping is becoming immensely popular. (Walmart will be guaranteeing 3 days or less delivery time, btw - a little bit slower than Amazon, but that's because the former has so many warehouses near so many cities that they can do it quicker).

Oh, and right hand to the heavens, as I'm typing this, I just got this text message.

Shipped: Your Amazon package with Oreck Vacuum Cleaner Bags To Fit Style CC, and all XL Upright Model... will be delivered Tue, May 26.

Wow- quick, and as I mentioned, a little bit too convenient, especially for shopaholics. But it really is amazing.

How much online shopping do YOU do?  Would love to know.
