Earlier this month, authorities and local animal control officers discovered dozens of animals living in horrific conditions. According to reports, several animals were already dead when help first arrived, while others were found without adequate food, water, or proper shelter.

Some birds were reportedly discovered outside in freezing temperatures with snow inside their cages, and unbelievably, a decapitated pig was also found among the deceased animals.

Timeline of the Investigation

On February 4th, State Police received a report of possible neglect and launched an investigation. By February 7th, authorities had seized all animals from the property, including two dogs, seven pigs, five rabbits, and numerous birds such as chickens, ducks, doves, and quail.

Many of the surviving animals were relocated to local sanctuaries and veterinary facilities for care.

Wood Turns Himself In

On February 11th, Wood surrendered himself to the State Police in Granville. He now faces six counts of Agriculture and Markets Law 353, which includes overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals, as well as failure to provide proper sustenance.

If you ever witness animal cruelty or believe an animal is in danger, don’t hesitate — report it immediately to local law enforcement, your local SPCA, or other humane agencies.

In 2010, the Albany County Legislature established the Animal Abuser Registry (Local Law K), which the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society manages.

This registry was designed to protect animals and inform the public.
