Horrific Animal Abuse Case in Washington County

A disturbing case of alleged animal neglect in Washington County has left many shaken after dozens of animals were discovered living in horrific conditions over the weekend.

According to a report from News10 ABC, at least 50 animals, both alive and dead, were seized Saturday from a property in Granville.

Granville Dog Control Officer Kathy Hall told News 10 she first received reports of neglected animals on Friday. When she arrived, she reportedly found several animals already dead and others without food, water, or proper shelter.

Disturbing Decapitated Pig Found on Property

Among those rescued were chickens, ducks, doves, quail, pigs, dogs, and rabbits. Hall told News 10 that some animals were found outside in freezing conditions, including doves left in cages with snow inside. She also reported discovering a decapitated pig among the deceased animals.

Just heartbreaking.

Hall said she initially spoke with the property owner and offered to help get water for the animals, but the offer was declined. Authorities later obtained a search warrant and spent hours on Saturday rescuing surviving animals and relocating them to local sanctuaries and veterinary care facilities.

No Arrests Made

Surprisingly, no arrests have been reported so far, but Hall told News 10 she expects criminal charges. She also noted a recent rise in alleged animal cruelty cases and says Washington County’s lack of an animal shelter continues to complicate rescue efforts.

If you ever witness animal cruelty or believe an animal is in danger, don’t hesitate — report it immediately to local law enforcement, your local SPCA, or other humane agencies.

In 2010, the Albany County Legislature established the Animal Abuser Registry (Local Law K), which the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society manages.

This registry was designed to protect animals and inform the public.
