Pay Attention or Pay Heavy Fines

If you live, work, or play in Albany, chances are you've gotten a warning in the mail about your excessive speeding or, worse, have already been popped multiple times for your heavy foot.

We all desire safer streets, especially for our children. Albany's outgoing Mayor Kathy Sheehan drew a hard line in the sand when she recently lowered the speed limit from 30 MPH to 25 MPH throughout the city, dropping it down to 20 MPH in school zones.

Albany Made Over One Million in Fines Since Fall

Albany has earned millions of dollars in the last few months from its heavily monitored traffic cameras, and it will continue issuing tickets even after the regular school year ends.

According to sources, Albany has made $3.24 million from these speed cameras.

WNYT reports that 107,000 tickets were issued at $50 per fine, and around $71,000 has been paid.

When all is said and done, the city will receive 40% of the money from tickets issued, and if the data is accurate, Albany has already made well over $1 million.
