Adirondack Camp Sells for Record $79.5 Million—One of the Biggest Ever
ADK Camp Sells for Nearly $80M
A historic Adirondack “Great Camp” just sold for a staggering $79.5 million, setting a record for resort property sales inside the Adirondack Park while turning plenty of heads across Upstate New York.
The property, located on Lake Kora in Raquette Lake, spans roughly 1,000 acres and dates back to 1898. Originally designed by famed Adirondack architect William West Durant, the camp was once known as Kamp Kill Kare.
Rooted in the Gilded Age
Sources say the camp has deep roots in Gilded Age luxury, past ties include the Vanderbilt family, and connections to Theodore Roosevelt’s lieutenant governor, Timothy Woodruff.
In more recent years, the estate evolved into an ultra-exclusive retreat, renting for upwards of $22,000 per day. Guests were treated to original historic furnishings, a 20-foot dining table, private bowling lanes, and full farm-to-table dining—all tucked deep in the Adirondack wilderness.
How Will It Be Used?
According to the Adirondack Explorer, the sale was finalized between two Texas-based entities, though local officials say they’re still unsure about the property's future. Any potential development would require approvals from both the town of Long Lake and the Adirondack Park Agency.
Beyond the eye-popping price tag, the deal also delivered a financial boost, generating more than $1.1 million in taxes for New York State.
And this may not be the last massive Adirondack deal—Whitney Park, a 36,000-acre property nearby, is currently back on the market for a reported $125 million.
Safe to say, Adirondack real estate is having a moment.
