Illegal Street Racing in Albany
Albany Police are being credited with some proactive work over the weekend, shutting down suspected illegal street-racing activity before it could even get off the ground.
According to the department, officers were conducting enforcement around 8:30 p.m. Saturday night on Central Avenue near Westgate Plaza when they observed a group beginning to gather.

Police stepped in early, issuing eight speeding citations along with one aggravated unlicensed operation charge and two unlicensed operator charges, the article states.

The effort is part of an ongoing initiative to stop illegal street racing and large meet-ups before they turn into dangerous situations for drivers and pedestrians.
And listen, this is a great job by the APD here, no question.

We do have to ask… street racing on Central Ave?!
Between potholes that could swallow a tire, speed humps every 20 feet, double-parked cars, traffic lights that seem to only turn red, and those school zone cameras ready to mail you a souvenir… It’s honestly faster to walk on some days.
Still, the danger is real, and that’s exactly why police are taking a proactive approach to shut it down early.
