Justice Served: Sentence Handed Down in Horrific Grafton Family Killings
Update on Local Man Who Killed Three
The Rensselaer County man who admitted to a horrific triple murder that stunned the Capital Region last summer has now learned his fate.
The heartbreaking case first unfolded over the summer when State Police say Fowler’s wife, Whitney, 27, called 911 during a domestic dispute, fearing for her safety and telling dispatchers that her husband may have had a gun. As the call was being placed, dispatchers reportedly heard what they believed were gunshots.

Wife, Father, and Step-Grandmother Killed
Troopers responded to the home and discovered Whitney with a fatal gunshot wound in the driveway. Inside the residence, they found Fowler’s father, Wilson Fowler, 55, and his step-grandmother, Anita Crandall, 69, also dead from gunshot wounds. All three victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
On Wednesday, a judge sentenced 27-year-old Joshua Fowler to 45 years to life in prison for the June 2025 killings of his wife, father, and step-grandmother at a home on South Road in the Town of Grafton, according to a report from News 10 ABC.
Father of One of the Victims Speaks Out
Before the sentence was handed down, News Channel 13 reported that Whitney Fowler’s father addressed his daughter’s killer directly in court, telling him,
“I hope the misery you created haunts you for the rest of your life.”
Back in June, it was reported by authorities that Fowler was located outside the home holding a long gun and initially refused commands before eventually surrendering. He was taken into custody after a brief standoff.
Fowler originally pleaded not guilty before later pleading guilty to three counts of second-degree murder in November 2025. Officials also confirmed troopers had responded to the home in previous years for reported domestic disputes.
As this tragic chapter closes in court, the heartbreak remains for the families and a community forever changed.
