Major Horror Movie Begins Filming in Schenectady
Movie crews are filming in Schenectady this week, and that means drivers should expect a few changes downtown.
Filming has begun for a horror movie currently using the working title Bridgeport. The production is expected to be the largest film project ever based in Schenectady County and will use locations around the city, including Armory Studios NY.
What Are They Filming?
Rose City Pictures, part of Warner Bros. Discovery, is producing the project. While the movie's official title has not been announced, the working title has fueled online speculation that it could be connected to the popular Conjuring franchise. So far, no connection has been confirmed.
County leaders say landing a production of this size is a major win for Schenectady. They credit months of planning to secure studio space, offices, warehouses, and set construction areas needed for filming.
Beware of Road Closures & Parking Restrictions
If you're heading into the Stockade District, keep an eye out for temporary parking restrictions and rolling road closures. No parking zones remain in effect through July 28, with additional restrictions scheduled July 30th through August 1st. Officials say more details about affected streets will be released soon.
The production has also been searching for local talent. Recent casting calls looked for people to portray 1890s-era residents, as well as performers such as stilt walkers and unicyclists for scenes being filmed in Schenectady and Fulton counties.
For now, the biggest impact for residents will be the extra activity downtown and a few temporary traffic changes as cameras begin rolling.
