Heroic Upstate Police Officer Risks Own Life to Save a Dog in Icy Lake
Bodycam video shows a police officer in Upstate New York sprinting to save a dog trapped in an icy lake. Watch how he navigated the thin ice to return the pup safely to its owners.
I'm sure if you asked police officer John Smith if he's a hero, he'd probably (very humbly I might add) just tell you that he was doing his job. But this is some next-level stuff here and it's not only because he braved icy waters of an Upstate NY lake to save a trapped dog, it's how quickly and efficiently he got on that ice, risking his own safety, to get to work.
He did it without hesitation, removing layers of his police uniform while running toward the struggling dog named "Kona," despite onlookers urging him otherwise.
It's actually quite amazing that the weight of the officer didn't crack any of the perilous ice, putting himself in a life or death situation.
The owner of Kona, wrote this to the Lewiston Police Department, describing the fast-acting heroism of Officer Smith:
You should be proud to have Officer Jon Smith as a member of the Lewiston Police Department. His professionalism and bravery should be applauded. I have witnessed countless acts of selfless heroism, Officer Jon Smith’s actions rank high in my book. Kona and I will visit the police station soon to thank Officer Smith once again for his outstanding service. -Kona's Owner, from the Lewiston Police Dept Facebook
