Another Truck Peeled Open by Infamous Glenville Bridge
It Happened Again
The notorious low-clearance railroad bridge on Glenridge Road in Glenville — often nicknamed “The Can Opener” — has claimed yet another truck, tearing the top off a trailer and leaving a mess for crews to clean up.
The latest image was posted to Facebook on Thursday morning from a Scotia resident who captured the pic, "I suggest you don't go on Glenridge, just happened at 10:30."
Dozens of Strikes
It's taken less than an hour for the image to garner thousands of reactions.
The Glenville bridge, which spans Route 146, has a clearance of just 10 feet, 11 inches, and has been smashing into over-height trucks for decades. Despite multiple warning signs posted well in advance, drivers still manage to hit it more than a dozen times each year. In some years, the bridge has been struck over 20 times.

The state even installed a $1.4 million high-tech warning system featuring flashing lights and laser-activated alerts to warn drivers if their vehicle is too tall. Still, the crashes keep coming.
Here Come the Reactions
As always, Capital Region residents had plenty to say online.
“Classic can opener!!” one commenter wrote.
“HOW?!?!?!” asked another.
Another local joked, “They need to paint monster eyes and teeth on the bridge.”
And perhaps the most common reaction: “Again??”
Many commenters expressed disbelief that drivers continue to hit the bridge despite the numerous warning signs and alerts in place.
Each strike causes traffic delays, costly damage, and cleanup headaches — and once again leaves locals asking the same question: with all the warnings… how does this keep happening?
