Out in Full Force 4th of July

Thanks mainly to the number of distracted, speeding, or drunk drivers, the New York State Police have been quite busy lately, and they were out in full force over the holiday weekend.

On Wednesday, they announced the number of tickets issued to New York drivers during the 4th of July STOP-DWI enforcement campaign, which was quite substantial.

In total, the New York State Police reported issuing 10,497 tickets statewide during the 4th of July STOP-DWI enforcement campaign, which began on Thursday, July 3, 2025, and concluded on Sunday, July 6, 2025.

2K Tickets Were Issued in the Capital Region

Closer to home, State Police issued nearly 2,000 tickets during the 4th of July Holiday.

According to the data released by the New York State Police, 1148 tickets were issued in the North Country (Troop B), and another 796 were issued in the immediate Capital Region (Troop G).

There were 8 DWI arrests made in the North Country during the holiday weekend, and 25 made in the Capital Region in that span, according to the report.

This comes on the heels of a very productive week-long sting in June, during which State Police say they issued over 27,000 tickets to drivers throughout the state.

From June 9th to June 15th, Troopers actively patrolled highways and targeted drivers who violated New York’s “Move Over” Law during this weeklong sting.

During the latest “Speed Week” enforcement period, Troopers used marked State Police vehicles and Concealed Identity Traffic Enforcement (CITE) vehicles as part of the operation.

What are CITE Vehicles?

Concealed Identity Traffic Enforcement (CITE) refers to the use of unmarked police vehicles and officers in routine traffic enforcement to blend in with regular traffic and more effectively identify traffic law violators.

CITE vehicles are designed to appear as ordinary cars but are equipped with emergency lighting and sirens that can be activated to stop vehicles.

State Police Issue 27K Tickets

As part of this enforcement detail, the New York State Police targeted speeding and aggressive drivers "while also watching for impaired and distracted drivers, vehicle occupants who were not properly buckled up, and drivers who violated the Move Over Law."

The New York State Police announced that Troopers issued 27,208 traffic tickets during the special “Speed Week” traffic enforcement campaign.

According to the full report, Troopers issued 12,703 tickets for speeding and 1,184 total tickets for Move Over Law violations.
