Heartbreak in Albany County: Missing Sheriff’s K9 Casey Found Dead
Sad Update: Missing K9 Found Deceased
A heartbreaking update following the search for a missing Albany County Sheriff’s K9, and our thoughts are with everyone in the department during this difficult time.
K9 Casey, an 80-pound bloodhound with the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, was found deceased in the median of the New York State Thruway after disappearing from her home near Willis Street and Main Street in the Village of Ravena on Saturday, August 15th.

Struck By Vehicle and Left Behind
Making a tough situation even worse, according to Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple, it appears Casey was struck by a vehicle and the individual responsible, tragically, left the scene.
“Sadly, the search for K9 Casey is over,” Apple wrote in an emotional Facebook update.
The Sheriff thanked everyone who searched for Casey, shared information, and kept watch for her after news of her disappearance spread throughout the Capital Region.

The relationship between a K9 and handler is incredibly special, making this loss especially difficult for those closest to Casey.

“We are devastated by this loss and incredibly grateful to everyone who helped search, shared information, and kept an eye out for Casey,” Apple said.

Our thoughts are also with Casey’s handler, Deputy Giuseppe Stone, his family, and the entire Albany County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Apple ended his message with a fitting tribute:
