Will Summer Ever Start in the Capital Region?
What's up with this Capital Region weather?
Rain...wind...cold...repeat.
We're used to a bit of rain in April and perhaps a few more showers in May, but as we head into Memorial Day Weekend, the forecast feels more suited for late fall or early winter than summer.
A viral photo shows many trees blanketed in snow in some of the higher Adirondack elevations.
Snow Blankets Trees in the ADK High Peaks
The photo below was taken on Thursday. While the exact location is unclear, the elevation was 3,900 feet. Some speculated it may be Mt. Marcy, the highest peak in the Adirondack Mountains.
The Adirondacks can get snow in May, especially at higher elevations.

However, a significant amount of snow could surprise some people as they settle into the ADKS this weekend to celebrate the unofficial kickoff to summer.
Meanwhile, the weather in Upstate New York has been so unpredictable that the DEC issued a warning for hikers.
DEC Issues Warning About Higher Elevations
On Thursday, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation advised outdoor recreationists to postpone high-elevation activities due to unstable spring conditions. They added, "snow and ice continue to melt at high elevations, steep trails can pose a serious danger to hikers."
All of this may change within the next few weeks, and while summer will undoubtedly poke its head out for at least a few weeks this year, it appears we're stuck with this "blah" weather at least for the weekend.
