What is Replacing Beloved Long-Standing Stuyvestant Plaza Store?
After a thirty-five-year run in Stuyvesant Plaza, Different Drummer's Kitchen Co./The Cook's Resource closed and is moving into Crossgates Mall. The move had to happen because the new owners of Stuyvesant Plaza didn't renew their lease according to the Albany Business Review. But we now know what will replace the beloved store.
When and Where is Different Drummer's Kitchen Going?
The plan is to open the new store on March 3rd inside Crossgates Mall in the former Williams-Sonoma space.
Is There A Similar Store Moving Into Stuyvesant Plaza?
The short answer is, yes. However, Different Drummer's Kitchen was a staple and one-of-a-kind in Stuyvesant Plaza for more than three decades. The new store will be Sur La Table which is a cookware and kitchen goods store. They have hundreds of locations across the country but this will be the first in our area.
The plan is to open the store in Stuyvesant Plaza by the summer. They are also opening stores in Wisconsin, Connecticut, and Westchester County this spring according to the Times Union.
What Will Sur La Table Offer
Much like the Different Drummer's Kitchen, they will have cooking expertise, in-store events, demonstrations, and offer cooking classes.
Sur La Table's CEO Jordan Voloshin said,
By expanding our retail footprint strategically, we’ve targeted specific markets providing new and familiar communities with a retail destination that offers the 50 years of cooking expertise that the brand is known for.
