Upstate New York Man Accused of Assaulting DOT Construction Flagger
An Upstate New York man has been arrested after allegedly hitting a traffic flagger in the Capital Region, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident happened around 1:21 p.m. on March 26th on Crescent Vischer Ferry Road in Halfmoon. Deputies responded to a report of an assault, and after investigating, they arrested 43-year-old William Stanley of Cohoes, who now faces several charges.
Officials say a flagger directed traffic and instructed Stanley to stop his vehicle. Instead of following the order, he allegedly ignored it, creating a dangerous situation. At some point, he reportedly struck the flagger in the shoulder with his hand.
In addition to the alleged assault, authorities say Stanley was driving without a valid license.
He has been charged with reckless endangerment in the second degree, which is a class A misdemeanor. He is also facing charges of reckless driving, second-degree harassment, operating a motor vehicle without a license, and failing to obey a flagger.
Reckless endangerment means someone’s actions created a serious risk of injury to another person. Reckless driving refers to operating a vehicle in a way that puts people or property in danger. Harassment in the second degree is considered a violation and typically involves unwanted physical contact or threats.
After his arrest, Stanley was released with appearance tickets. He is expected to appear in Halfmoon Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.
