The Costumer Moving From Colonie to Larger Location
For over one hundred years, The Costumer has been outfitting ghouls, goblins, vaudeville shows, and high school theater performances, and now they are gathering their threads and moving to a larger location.
It's nice to see that during the pandemic and now as we come out of it, a local business cannot only survive but actually expand to a bigger location. The Costumer will be relocating their Central Ave location to Mohawk Harbor in Schenectady. The new seventy-five hundred square foot retail space will face Erie Boulevard in Schenectady. They will also make much-needed renovations to their Barrett Street headquarters in Schenectady according to TimesUnion.com. These upgrades will allow The Costumer to increase inventory and truly make their home in Schenectady.
The Costumer has been part of the Capital Region since 1917. They started by outfitting vaudeville shows and then expanded into helping schools with costumes for their plays and shows. Of course, they are the place to go for Halloween and costume parties too.
The president and owner of The Costumer, Erik Johnsen said that Mohawk Harbor is the perfect place for them to be. He added that the restaurants and the entertainment that is there will enhance the complex.
They hope to open on August 1st. This way they will be all ready to go before their busy Halloween season.
Erik Johnsen is remaining optimistic about everything opening back up soon. He said:
We feel by the time fall comes, we have every indication things will look normal — if not beyond normal. There’s a lot of pent-up demand.
