
Breaking: Swatting Call Prompts Lockdown at Amsterdam High School

Amsterdam High School was placed into lockdown on Tuesday morning after a threatening phone call prompted a large police response.
According to Montgomery County Sheriff Jeffery T. Smith, the Sheriff’s Office was notified around 9:27 a.m. of a call made to the school threatening violence. Out of an abundance of caution, Amsterdam High School and other district buildings went into lockdown.

Investigating the Call
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded, including the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Amsterdam Police, and New York State Police.
Investigators quickly traced the call and identified the phone number associated with it. With assistance from the New York State Intelligence Center and the FBI, authorities determined the incident was a “swatting” call — a false report intended to trigger a large emergency response.
No Injuries Reported
Officials say incidents like this are occurring across the country, placing a significant strain on emergency resources and causing unnecessary stress for students, staff, and families. Law enforcement stressed that threats of this nature are taken extremely seriously and anyone responsible will be held fully accountable.
No injuries were reported. The report states that police will maintain an increased presence at the school throughout the day and assist with dismissal to ensure student and staff safety.
The investigation remains ongoing.
