New 25 MPH Speed Limit Signs Going Up Across the Spa City
I live in Albany, where the speed limit was reduced last year. While it might be deemed technically safer, it’s also a literal crawl. Factor in the gazillion school zones where you can’t go over 20, and my Jeep has officially become the slowest thing on four wheels.
The other day, an old lady on a bike beat me on a two-mile stretch of Central Ave. I wish I were kidding.

Well, Saratoga Springs, you’re up next.
Traffic in the Spa City might already feel like a slow-motion parade between concerts, horse racing, and tourists searching for parking — but it’s about to get even slower.
According to the Saratoga Springs Police Department, the city’s Traffic Department has begun changing all speed limit signs to 25 mph.
Here’s what they said:
“As you go about your daily routine, please keep an eye out for these new changes. Our focus is enhancing the safety of those who drive, bike and walk our roadways. Our officers will be out issuing warnings and ensuring that drivers are aware of these changes.”
Police say crash rates in Saratoga Springs are up 1% overall and 13% in crash injuries compared to last year. So the hope is that slowing things down a bit will help reduce those numbers.
So, if you’re heading up Broadway, cruising to the Race Course, or creeping toward the State Park this fall — be patient, take it slow, and maybe bring along some snacks.
At this rate, that same old lady on the bike might beat you to the finish line, too.
