Schenectady Woman Accused of Stealing Over 50K from Employer
She Wasn't Stealing the Toilet Paper
At one point, we've all been guilty of taking food leftovers home from work, or grabbing the occasional roll of toilet paper in a pinch, but a Schenectady County woman is accused of pilfering way more than some toiletries.
According to a report by the New York State Police, a 53-year-old Schenectady woman who worked in her office's accounting department faces felony charges after it was learned that she overpaid herself by at least $50,000 for nearly two years.

State Police arrested Gina L. Luby, 53, of Schenectady, NY, for Grand Larceny in the second degree, a class “C” felony, after the investigation determined the company had employed Luby in the unnamed business's accounting department since January 2020.
For nearly two years, from January 2022 until December 2023, Luby "allegedly overpaid herself without authorization or permission on multiple dates, resulting in more than $50,000 theft from the business," according to the report.
The State Police say Luby was arrested at her Schenectady home and transported to SP Princetown for processing.
What's the Punishment of a Class C Felony?
Grand Larceny in the Second Degree is categorized as a Class C felony under New York law, and a conviction for this offense can result in a prison sentence of up to 15 years.
In addition to imprisonment, the court can impose fines, with the maximum amount potentially reaching $15,000 or twice the value of the stolen property.
The source states that first-time offenders may not be sentenced to prison and could receive probation or a short sentence followed by probation.
