According to the New York State Police, the incident occurred on January 4, 2026, at around 3:31 pm, when Troopers from the Norwich barracks were called to a residence on English Lane in Greene for a reported domestic dispute.

Man Allegedly Tried to Disarm Trooper

Police say 25-year-old Cagan Sodan of Greene (about two hours southwest of Albany) was uncooperative when a Trooper arrived on scene and became combative during the investigation. During the encounter, authorities say Sodan attempted to remove the Trooper’s firearm from its holster, escalating the situation.

The Trooper was able to restrain Sodan and take him into custody without injury. Police noted that Sodan did suffer an injury to his hand, which investigators say occurred earlier when he punched a window. No Troopers were injured.

Litany of Charges

According to the NYSP, Sodan has been charged with:

  • Attempted Robbery in the Second Degree (Class C felony)
  • Attempted Assault in the Second Degree (Class E felony)
  • Reckless Endangerment (misdemeanor)
  • Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree (misdemeanor)
  • Obstructing Governmental Administration (misdemeanor)

Following his arrest, Sodan was taken to Chenango County Jail for arraignment.

As with all criminal cases, all charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
