Friend Speaks Out on Albany NY Cold Case: ‘She Was A Good Mom’
A Guilderland woman and friend to Keri Mazzuca, the mom accused of leaving her newborn baby to die in Albany's Washington Park 27 years ago, shed some insight about their close friendship that included family vacations together.
The woman, whom we'll call "Dee," asked us not to reveal her name because she is still very close to the family.
But she did tell the GNA Morning Show that she was shocked to hear about a recent Capital Region cold case discovery involving a person she considered one of her best friends and 'a good mom' for nearly ten years.
How Did They Meet?
Dee told us they met several years ago at a baseball game, and their sons became fast friends. Dee, like Mazzuca, has two children of her own; they were all very close for nearly a decade.
"We went on vacations together," she told us, adding that their kids went to school together at Guilderland High School and graduated the same year.
Did She Ever Suspect Something Was Up?
Dee emphatically responded when asked if she had noticed anything about Mazucca's behavior that would suggest she was harboring a dark, disturbing secret.
"Absolutely not," she told the GNA Morning Show. "She was more like a 'helicopter mom' wanting to be involved in every second of their life...she was just a really good mom."
Has She Spoken to Her Friend Since the Discovery?
Dee hadn't reached out to Mazzuca, but she told us that she reached out to her kids, both in their 20s now, and offered to help them in any way. She told them, "The world is cruel, and people will say nasty things, but this still is your Mom, and to reach out if you need anything."
According to Dee, both kids were appreciative.
"From what I knew, she was a good person," Dee said about her former best friend, who could spend most of her life behind bars.
"Obviously," Dee added, "she has some dark secrets, and it sucks for everyone involved, especially her two kids, who I worry about every day now."
