Tiny Bear Cub Stops Traffic in Upstate NY, Trooper Steps In
Only in Upstate NY
We appreciate the men and women of law enforcement, and you’ve gotta give credit where it’s due. This is one of those “only in Upstate New York” moments that’s equal parts adorable and slightly unnerving.
A New York State Police sergeant was flagged down by a passerby on West Ava Road in Oneida County after something unusual was spotted in the roadway. Not a pothole, not debris… but a tiny black bear cub just hanging out, causing a bit of congestion while drivers rubbernecked.
Turns out, it wasn’t your average roadside hazard… it was a tiny, furry cub causing a brief bear-ier to traffic. NYSP
NYSP Sergeant Steps In
That’s when Sergeant Richard Kosakowski stepped in. He safely secured the cub and contacted the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, which responded to take over and work to reunite the little guy with his mom.

Now listen, I do love this story. I really do. And shoutout to the trooper for helping out this little furry friend.
But I’ll be honest, holding that cub? That may have scared the daylights out of me because of who could have been lurking in the background, not to mention the claws on that miniature wolverine.
Thank You For Your Service, But...
And I’m not alone. The comment section is filled with people pointing out those massive claws on that “cute little baby,” and others asking the obvious question… where’s mom?!
Because as adorable as that cub is, we all know mama bear is not something you want to run into unexpectedly. A great reminder to stay alert on the roads and leave wildlife situations to the professionals.
