With everything law enforcement deals with day in and day out, it’s always great to see them give back in such a big way. With Thanksgiving just days away, the Albany County Sheriff’s Office is once again preparing thousands of holiday meals for families in need across the Capital Region.

More Dinners Than Ever

Sheriff Craig Apple says his team is assembling more dinners than ever this year, thanks to strong partnerships with Capital City Rescue Mission, ShopRite, Cisco, and Old World Provisions. Together, they’ve gathered everything they need for the massive effort, which includes 900 pounds of turkey.

Volunteers and staff have already started cooking, carving, and packaging meals that will go out early this week.

The Sheriff’s Office expects to deliver at least 3,500 individual Thanksgiving meals, plus another 1,000 bulk meals for homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters, first responders, and ER staff.

Delivering Thousands of Meals

Volunteer turnout has been strong, with families, deputies, and staff pitching in to help. “Families are really hurting this year,” Sheriff Apple said. “We try to absorb as much as we can in-house, and we’re fortunate to have so many people willing to help.”

While volunteer slots are full, there’s still time for families to request a meal. The Sheriff’s Office is receiving dozens of new calls each day and will continue taking requests.

To Request a Free Meal:

  • Phone: 518-487-5440
  • Email: ACsOturkey@gmail.com
  • Pickup Location: 58 Verda Avenue, Clarksville
  • Meals serve four people, and families can choose delivery or pickup depending on where they live.
  • Patrol cars and ambulances will be dispatched across the Capital Region on Tuesday to make sure meals arrive in time for Thanksgiving.

Did Anyone Watch These TV Shows in the 1980s and 1990s?

While you might think “watching while distracted” is a modern habit, even back in the day the TV was just… there, humming along while you did other things. These were the shows that weren’t exactly “must-see TV,” more like “might-see TV” — part of the culture, but you had to wonder: who was actually watching?
