Albany Commuters Thank State Workers For ‘Staying Home Monday’
Columbus Day was observed on Monday and that left many open roads and smooth commutes for thousands in the Capital Region who did have to work on Monday. It didn't go unnoticed or unappreciated by some of those people who, tongue firmly planted in cheek, wrote an open letter to state workers, thanking them for having Monday off!
There are things about morning show hours that are difficult, I mean who wants to wake up every morning at 4am? It's not exactly ideal but I've been doing it for so long I've gotten used to. The best thing about my morning show hours are that rarely do I have to deal with the Capital Region traffic that so many people get stuck in every day- sometimes twice. I don't know how you guys do it; I'm way too impatient. I'm the guy who jumps from lane to lane at the grocery store if someone in the next isle over has one less item than the person standing in front of me. I saw a funny post on Albany Reddit on Monday and it made me think of all times I've cursed Capital Region traffic- which is wayyyy less than most of you. Y'all are the real MVP's as in Motorists Very Pissed.
For the record, I have much appreciation for our state workers and how hard they work and produce, but this was the Albany Reddit post that made me chuckle:
Dear state workers,
Thank you SOOOOOOOO much for staying home today. My commute to and from work today was absolutely WONDERFUL. No one was driving 60 in the left lane. Nobody came to a complete stop in the EZ Pass lane. Traffic moved along smoothly without any brake tappers, slow mergers, or wide turners anywhere to be seen. Your day off was like a day off for all of us. I’ve never been so excited for Veteran’s Day in all of my life. From the bottom of my heart, a sincere THANK YOU.
Yours truly,

Some of the responses were equally as humorous to me:
"I can’t believe I didn’t want to (harm) myself two times today! I average 10 per week!"
"State worker here! You’re quite welcome! But you really should be thanking Chris Columbus. Actually don’t. That guy straight up sucks."
