4-Month-Old Infant Injured in Amsterdam Stabbing, New Details Released
Sheriff Gives Details of Stabbing in Amsterdam
Authorities say new details shed light on the violent stabbing incident that unfolded Wednesday afternoon on Log City Road in the Town of Amsterdam, an attack that sent three people — including an infant — to the hospital.
According to Montgomery County Sheriff Jeffrey T. Smith, deputies were called to the area at approximately 12:17 p.m. after a disturbance involving neighbors along Log City Road. Sheriff Smith said in Thursday's press conference that there was a brief altercation before the stabbing, but nothing that should have escalated to the level of violence that followed.
Suspect Attacked Two Adults, an Infant, and a Pet
Investigators say the suspect, 29-year-old Chad A. Pacillo of Amsterdam, left the property after the initial encounter and returned a short time later.
At that point, Pacillo allegedly attacked two adults, one male and one female, as well as a 4-month-old child. While the male victim was being attacked, the female victim was able to protect the infant inside a garage and call 911.
Sheriff Smith said Pacillo attempted to enter the home during the incident and also pursued the family pet. Deputies located Pacillo a short time later in a nearby driveway and took him into custody without further incident.
Victims Expected to Make Full Recovery
All three victims were transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment. Sheriff Smith confirmed during Thursday’s press conference that all three have since been released and are expected to make a full recovery.

Pacillo faces multiple felony charges, including three counts of attempted murder, burglary, assault, and weapons-related offenses. He was treated at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam, then released to custody, and is scheduled to be arraigned in the Town of Amsterdam Court.
Sheriff Thankful It Wasn't a Triple Homicide
“There’s still work to be completed on this case, but we’re thankful to be standing here not talking about three homicides and an officer-involved shooting,” Sheriff Smith said.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing, but there is no threat to the public at this time.
