Winter Storm Watch Issued, Snow On the Way To Parts Of Upstate NY
Parts of Upstate New York will welcome the New Year with some new, fresh snow on the ground.
After some mild late December, Upstate New York is about to plunge back into winter cold with snow returning as well in parts of Upstate New York. Winter weather advisories have been issued for areas in Upstate New York.
National Weather Service Issues Winter Storm Watch
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Watch from 1 pm Wednesday (New Year's Day 2025) through 4 pm Sunday (January 5, 2025) for the Hamilton, Northern Herkimer, and Southern Herkimer Counties.
7 or more inches of lake effect snow is expected with wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour.
WNYT/News Channel 13's First Warning Forecast says the Capital Region can expect lake effect snow showers Thursday through Sunday, with temperatures plunging back into the 20s for the first full weekend of 2025.
Forecasters are also saying overall January is going to be very cold, possibly our coldest January since 2011 according to Accuweather. These lower temps could lead to several winter storms in January for Upstate New York and the Capital Region. So stay tuned for weather updates all month long!
