Funding for The Capital Region

While games will be played all over America for the Cup, the finals will take place at Metlife Stadium, home of the Jets and Giants. Technically, yes, the stadium is in New Jersey, but New York is the official home for the Finals.

The State of New York didn't just want the city to get all the attention though, so the Community World Cup Grant Program allocated funding to cities across Upstate New York to partake in these celebrations. For the Capital Region, Albany received $29,825 and Troy received a whopping $70,000.

What Will This Money Go To?

The $70K will be used by Troy's Downtown Business Improvement District. The major project they're planning on getting started is a community watch party for the city. There are two locations planned at the moment, one in Riverfront Park in Downtown Troy, and another in Troy's Little Italy at the Italian Community Center.

Many bars and restaurants will charge a fee to get in and watch the games, these watch parties are meant to be completely free for everyone to come and watch.

In addition, the city will be decorating for the Cup, and local vendors will have the opportunity to get out and sell to the crowds watching.
