When they arrived, they discovered a Subaru Crosstrek that had struck a tree, its engine compartment already engulfed in flames.
Rescued Moments Before the Car was Engulfed
Inside, the driver was severely injured and unable to escape.
Without hesitation, Troopers Macaulay and Pjetri ran toward the burning vehicle, pulled the man to safety, and then went back inside to ensure no other passengers were trapped. Moments later, the car was engulfed in flames.
In the video, you can hear the man struggling to move while telling the Troopers that he had a broken leg.
Investigators determined that the driver hit a deer, lost control, and then struck a tree. He suffered two fractured ankles and facial injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
It’s impossible not to be moved by the quick action and selflessness of these Troopers. In those critical moments, they put their own lives on the line, running toward danger so that others might live.
Their courage is a powerful reminder of the incredible men and women who protect our communities every day.
