A train derailment has caused some traffic problems for people in the Town Of Mohawk, near Fonda. This happened Thursday morning, June 27, 2013.

According to a story from News 10 ABC, there have been two people injured, and involved 20 cars, that fell off of the train. The Montgomery Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident and have emergency personnel at the scene, along with crews from the Mohawk Fire Department, HAZMAT, GAVAC and Montgomery Emergency Management.

Passengers of Amtrak that were traveling from Buffalo to Albany have been placed on a bus, as the cleanup and investigation is continuing. A travel note - Route 5 remains closed and traffic is being rerouted on Route 5 between State Highway 334 in Mohawk and Route 10 in Palatine. People have been asked to avoid traveling in this area.
