The Chase

On the 23rd, the Amsterdam Police Department engaged a man on a Suzuki motorcycle in a traffic stop in the City of Amsterdam. The suspect fled on the bike, making his way to State Highway 30. Deputies from Montgomery County Sheriff's Office were called in for backup.

The suspect eventually merged on to State Highway 161 in the Town of Florida. Once there, deputies discontinued the search. That is, until a deputy saw the suspect once again, making his way back onto State Highway 161. He got into the Town of Glen before he noticed a Sheriff's car blocking the intersection of State Highways 161 and 30a. He attempted a U-Turn, but his bike stalled out.

The Arrest

While trying to fix his bike, Deputies moved in to arrest him. During this, he was able to restart his bike and take off. Unfortunately for him, he immediately slammed into the push-bumper of a Deputy’s patrol vehicle causing him to fall to the ground.

He was finally taken into custody when the Deputies were able to see his file. The man was 52-year-old John S. Becker Jr. He was found to be intoxicated at the scene, in possession of an open container, and in possession of Crack Cocaine related paraphernalia.

It was also discovered that his license had been suspended and revoked in 2009, and he had racked up 72 license suspensions, 48 of which are still active.
