Distribution Center Adding More Dollars & 150 Jobs to Montgomery County
There are more jobs and more dollars coming to Montgomery County. There is a company that is looking to add another distribution center to the one they already have in the area.
What Company is Looking to Expand?
Dollar General wants to add to its already successful distribution center in the town of Florida in Montgomery County. They are hoping to build a one hundred fifty thousand square foot distribution center that would handle perishable food distribution for current and future Dollar General stores in the region according to Albany Business Review. The project would cost thirty-five million dollars and create one hundred fifty full-time jobs with an average salary of thirty-nine thousand dollars a year. The new distribution center would be completed by April 2024.
The Original Dollar General Distribution Center Exceeded Expectations
Dollar General's distribution facility is located at 2041 Route 5S in Florida, NY. It is seven hundred fifty thousand square feet and was a ninety-one million dollar investment. Construction began in 2017 and finished in 2019. Originally, Dollar General thought they would employ four hundred thirty people but as of the end of 2020, there were five hundred forty-seven on the payroll.
Adding More Jobs to Montgomery County
The director of economic development for Montgomery County, Ken Rose, said that Dollar General's interest in further investing in the region makes them confident that they can fill jobs. He said,
They felt comfortable enough that they were able to leverage that many employees within the first couple of years, they obviously think that they'll have the labor force and the workforce that they need.
