Over 30 Abused Animals (Including a Canadian Goose) Rescued in Upstate NY
First Reported Back in June
According to New York State Police, troopers first received reports back on June 12, 2025, about several neglected animals on a property along State Route 40 in Whitehall.
During that initial search, according to the NYSP, three animals, two dogs and a cat, were found in poor condition and were removed from the home.
28 More Animals Seized
Then, on September 27, 2025, the report states that troopers returned to the property, where they seized an additional 28 animals, which included eight dogs, nineteen cats, and even a Canadian goose that appeared to be living in poor physical and environmental conditions.
The dogs and cats were transferred to local veterinary clinics for care, while the goose was released to North Country Wild Care, a licensed wildlife rehabilitation group.

What You Can Do
If you ever witness animal cruelty or believe an animal is in danger, don’t hesitate — report it immediately to local law enforcement, your local SPCA, or other humane agencies.
In 2010, the Albany County Legislature established the Animal Abuser Registry (Local Law K), which the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society manages. This registry was designed to protect animals and inform the public.
