Schenectady County Losing One of its Grocery Stores-Will Close Soon
It was just announced that Schenectady County would finally get a new grocery store in a much-needed part of the county. However, we just learned that another grocery store of its kind will be closing for good.
Where is the Grocery Store Located?
The supermarket that is closing is the Aldi location in Woodlawn Plaza at State Street in Schenectady. Although the manager couldn't comment, according to The Daily Gazette, he did confirm that the location will be closing soon. He went on to say that employees are not allowed to comment and it has to come from corporate.
This only leaves one other Aldi location in Schenectady County until the new grocery store is built. The only other Aldi is located at 303 Saratoga Road in Glenville.
There is a New Aldi Being Built Nearby
There is a huge brand new Aldi being built at the five corners in Rotterdam. Residents in that area have been wanting a grocery store in that area for years. The new Aldi Grocery Store will be twenty thousand square feet and is already in the advanced stages of being built. Schenectady County made the announcement last March that they would be taking on two abandoned sites. One was the old CVS Pharmacy and the store next door was Taylor & Vadney Sporting Goods Shop according to the Daily Gazette. The new store is set to open in mid-July.
