Look For New Chains Moving Into Popular Area of Schenectady County
The Town of Rotterdam continues to see change as new businesses look to set up shop and reshape familiar areas. One of the latest proposals could bring two popular chains to the area, adding more quick and convenient dining options for residents.
Altamont Avenue is the focus of the plan, with a Chipotle and a 7 Brew coffee shop proposed for the site where Johnny C’s stands. The application has been submitted, but nothing has been approved yet. The project is still in the environmental review stage, which is required before any final decisions are made.
The proposal includes two separate buildings, a quick-serve restaurant, and a smaller coffee shop. Both would include drive-through service and would span the full block that includes Johnny C’s and several neighboring properties, according to the Daily Gazette.
One nearby business, Stepping Stone Massage, has already announced plans to close this spring, noting that its building is expected to be demolished as part of the redevelopment. Other businesses on the block could also be affected, though details are still being reviewed.
Town officials say they do not yet know what will happen with the existing restaurant or other tenants. The planning commission has sent the application to the town engineer for further review, which is a standard next step.
If the project moves forward, this would become the second 7 Brew location in the area, following the one that opened last summer, a short distance away.
