If you have ever wandered the aisles at Tractor Supply, you know it is one of those stores where you go in for one thing and leave with five. Between work boots, animal feed, gardening supplies, tools, hardware, and even baby chicks in the spring, it is a familiar stop for many Upstate New Yorkers.

Now the tenth location could be coming to the Capital Region.

A new Tractor Supply store is being proposed in Schenectady County, specifically in Rotterdam, and the project has been quietly moving forward for nearly two years. If everything stays on track, construction could start this spring.

The plan calls for a brand new building on Duanesburg Road near Schalmont High School, on land that is currently an open field zoned for agricultural use. The company is still working through the permitting process with the town.

According to the site plan, the store would sit behind nearby homes, with fencing and trees added to help provide privacy. The location would also include a garden center, which is a popular feature at many of their other stores.

Company representatives say Rotterdam makes sense because it is a growing area with a mix of residential neighborhoods, open land, and deep farming roots. They see the town as a good match for the kind of customers Tractor Supply serves, from backyard gardeners to small farmers and people who just like to fix things themselves.

If approved, the store would join other local locations in Clifton Park, Guilderland, Troy, Queensbury, Glenmont, Cobleskill, Amsterdam, Palentine Bridge, and Greenwich.
