NY State Champs Colonie One Step Closer to LL World Series
Improbable seasons by two local 12U Little League teams resulted in a New York State Championship game yesterday that many won't soon forget.
Colonie Little League and Rotterdam Carman Little League took the field against one another Sunday morning for the right to play in next week's Mid-Atlantic Regionals.
The matchup, featuring two teams separated by just a few miles, battled back and forth for the first few innings in a game that Colonie would break open in the 4th inning. In the 4th, Cam Frazier delivered the knockout blow when he smacked a 3-run homer giving Colonie an 11-4 lead.
That would prove to be the final score and with the win, Colonie victory advanced to the Mid-Atlantic Regionals in Bristol, CT ending the season for a very tough Rotterdam Carman squad.
Give Rotterdam credit, they hung tough as long as they could versus a Colonie team that simply mashes the ball. All they've done so far is outscore their opponents 173-28 in All-Star tournament play.
Colonie went a perfect 5-0 in the state tournament, defeating Rotterdam-Carman 11-4 in the state final. They are now 16-0 overall since beginning their district tournament -Troy Record
In the Regionals, the competition will be much tougher for Colonie who will have to navigate their way through 5 other teams, also state champions, and also with very impressive resumes.
All-Star teams from Delaware, New Jersey, Washington DC, Maryland, and Pennsylvania will join Colonie during the double-elimination tournament which starts on Sunday, August 8th.
The first game for the Colonie boys will be Monday, August 9th at 4 pm versus the winner of Pennsylvania vs. Washington DC.
The games will be televised on ESPN +.
