Next Phase in Schenectady’s Mohawk Harbor Includes Union College?
Mohawk Harbor in Schenectady has become a beautiful development that includes apartments, condos, restaurants, and many businesses. As the retail spaces fill up, there are still many plans for the area surrounding it. One of those plans may include Union College.
The Last Few Retail Spaces Are Filling Up
It was just announced that The Bunker would be taking up one of the last retail spaces in Mohawk Harbor. The Bunker is a restaurant and bar with golf simulators. The concept is perfect for the proximity to the Rivers Casino and Resort and its patrons and guests.
There Are More Projects in the Works
There are plans with Union College, Schenectady officials, and the Schenectady Metroplex Authority that would utilize the land next to the Landings Hotel at the Rivers Casino and Resort.
They hope to build a forty-million-dollar hockey rink that would be home ice for Union College. Because of its proximity to the Landings Hotel and Rivers Casino, it would also double as an events center for other sports, competitions, and trade shows according to the Albany Business Review.
State Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara said that ten million dollars have already been secured for the new arena in the state budget. The hope is that the arena would be ready for the Union College men's and women's 2024-25 hockey season.
But There's More Planned!
There are plans to build an eighty-thousand-square-foot aquatic center. While fundraising continues for this project, Assemblyman Santabarbara said that he has secured two point five million dollars toward the center. It is estimated to cost thirty-five million dollars. The Capital Region Aquatic Center would hold swimming competitions and classes.
