New York Law Enforcement Out In Full Force-Celebrate Super Bowl Responsibly
It's Super Bowl weekend and chances are you are heading to a party to watch the big game. Make sure you plan and designate a driver. Police will be out in full force with sobriety checkpoints.
Governor Kathy Hochul wants to make sure everyone gets home safely during Super Bowl week. From Monday, February 3rd, to Sunday, February 9th, 2025, State Police and local law enforcement will be out in full force, cracking down on drunk driving. Expect more patrols, sobriety checkpoints, and a focus on underage drinking enforcement.
“With fans gathering across the state to watch the big game, we’re stepping up efforts to keep the roads safe,” Governor Hochul said. “There’s zero tolerance for reckless or impaired driving. Make smart choices to protect yourself and others.”
Last year, officers arrested 262 impaired drivers and handed out more than 8,000 tickets during Super Bowl weekend. This year, the message is clear: Don’t drink and drive.
DMV Commissioner Mark J.F. Schroeder reminds everyone: “The smartest move is planning your ride home before kickoff. Stick to the speed limit, stay off your phone, and never drive under the influence.”
If you’re celebrating, keep these tips in mind:
-Never drive under the influence—just one drink can be too much.
-Plan ahead: Pick a designated driver, call a rideshare, or take a taxi.
-Stop friends from driving drunk—take their keys if needed.
-Report suspected drunk drivers to the police.
New York’s free “Have a Plan” app helps find taxis, designate sober drivers, and learn about DWI laws. And remember, if you serve alcohol to a guest who later crashes, you could be held responsible.
