Upstate New York Nostalgia: Latham Circle Mall

There are certain places in the Capital Region that instantly transport you back in time, and for many of us, Latham Circle Mall is one of them.

All it takes is one old photo to remember meeting friends after school, grabbing something to eat, browsing stores you haven't thought about in years, or simply wandering the mall because that's what everyone did. Before smartphones and social media, the mall was where so many memories were made.

For decades, Latham Circle Mall was more than a shopping center; it was a gathering place for North Colonie residents and shoppers from across the region.

While Crossgates Mall and Colonie Center eventually became the area's retail giants, Latham Circle Mall always had a loyal following of its own.

Once Caldor Left, it Was Only a Matter of Time...

Like many malls across America, changing shopping habits eventually took their toll. After anchor stores began closing—including Caldor in 1999—the mall slowly emptied before ultimately closing and being demolished in 2013.

More than a decade later, it's amazing how many people still talk about it with a smile. These incredible photos, shared by Frank Zecca, preserve a piece of Capital Region history that many of us will never forget.

Take a look through the gallery below and see how many memories come flooding back. What's the first store or memory that comes to mind when you think of Latham Circle Mall?
