Grocery shopping can be expensive, and it just seems like it's getting worse day by day. What once used to be enough to buy a weeks worth of food can barely stretch a few days.

Luckily for those in Upstate New York, one grocery chain is helping lighten the load, and all they need is your unwanted change.

Double Exchange Day

Coming soon, PriceChopper will host their "Double Exchange Day" where all your money is worth double... technically. On Sunday, November 16th, PriceChopper will be distributing gift cards worth double what you pay for them, but of course, there's a catch.

You can't just walk in with your credit or debit card and pay for one of these gift cards. In fact, you can't pay for them with anything aside from the United States' most useless currency: Pennies.

How Does The Exchange Work?

For every penny you bring into a PriceChopper on the day of the event, the store will double that amount and give you a gift card with that much on it. You can't just bring in a penny and get a two cent gift card, though. The minimum you're allowed to exchange is 50 cents for a $1 card, and the maximum you can exchange is $100 for a $200 card.

This event is taking place because of the U.S. Treasury's decision to discontinue the penny. Obviously, that move will make getting customers exact change very difficult, which is why the chain wants to stock up on the one cent coin now.

Canadian Pacific Holiday Train Rolls Through The Capital Region For a Great Cause

It had been three years since the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train rolled through the Capital Region. It made three stops; Mechanicville, Saratoga Springs, and Fort Edward. The first was Mechanicville on a rainy Sunday night. This is where I enjoyed the festive holiday train. They are traveling across the country to 106 stops. At each stop, they play live music and collect donations for the local food banks. Country Artist Lindsay Ell was the musical entertainment and she was awesome. The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train also presented the Mechanicville Community Center with a check for $3500 to help restock the food bank. Even though the weather wasn't ideal, a couple of hundred families joined the fun.
