As the third richest state in America, New York is likely to have some higher income areas than other states. Obviously, New York City pulls a lot of the weight, but Upstate New York is where the rich get really rich.

The wealth is spread out across the state pretty fairly, but the Capital Region has more than a few entries on the list.

The richest City in Upstate New York

According to recent census data, compiled by Kevin Tampone at Syracuse.com, Forestburgh in Sullivan county is the richest town in Upstate. It sits about 2 hours Northeast of Manhattan and has an average income of $180,000 per household.

For reference, the average household income in Manhattan is around $99,000. That's nearly half of what Forestburgh is taking in. While it may be the richest in Upstate New York, the Capital Region's surrounding cities and towns are inching closer and closer.

The Richest Places in the Capital Region

While Forestburgh takes first place, the Capital Region is all over this list. Niskayuna, in Schenectady is in third place with a median income of $171,664, once again, much larger than Manhattan's.

Clifton Park in Saratoga county came in at Number Eight, and Bethlehem in Albany county came in at 11. Saratoga Springs and Ballston, both also in Saratoga county both just made the Top-25 cut, with Ballston being the lowest on the list. regardless, they're still pulling in a median income of $147,500. If you've come in to some money and you need a place to live outside of the hustle and bustle of the big city, these are the places for you.

13th Capital Region Chipotle in Saratoga County Opening Soon!

Another Chipotle is being built in Saratoga County. This will be the thirteenth in the region. This Chipotle is located off Exit 12 of the Northway in Malta. This location is great if you live in lower Saratoga County. It is closer than the Clifton Park Chipotle and between the new one in Saratoga. Check out the progress of this new Malta Chipotle. New York State Free Fishing Days 2026

Governor Kathy Hochul has announced the return of New York State's free fishing days for 2026. There are other programs offered, like a rod loaner program and a learn to fish program. The license requirement will be waived for freshwater fishing on the following dates:
