One of thoroughbred racing's top trainers and Mechanicville native Chad Brown has been scratched by the US Department of Labor. The local horse trainer, considered by many to be the finest in the sport, has been ordered to pay 1.6 million dollars in back wages and fines after it was learned that he stiffed employees of their earned wages.

According to The Saratogian, Brown of Mechanicville, was popped by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division.  Brown and Chad C. Brown Inc., according to the report, violated the Fair Labor Standards Act and labor provisions of the H-2B non-immigrant visa program after, among other things, failing to pay certain employees their wages or reimbursing them.

The report also states that he's been ordered to pay overtime wages for all hours when grooms and hot walkers worked more than 40 hours per week.

All-in, he owes approximately 1.6 million dollars.

Chad Brown has been one of racing's most successful trainers amassing over 150 million dollars in earnings over his 13-year career.
